Guest blogger Ashley Hunt here. I'm not great at talking about myself, or about my writing, so this should be fun. Pull up a chair and we'll see what happens. First and foremost Ashley Hunt is indeed my real name. I am aware it sounds like some new age version of Jane Doe, but I can assure you that it is not. I can also tell you I will not be publishing under a Pseudonym (pen name).... and no, You may not call me Camilla McFlutterbutton... (Just kidding, yes you can) I have been writing since I was very young. Even before I could read and write, I would sit on my own and make up stories. I write mostly short stories and children stories. I study old fairy tales. If you go that route, I feel I need to warn you, prepare to have your childhood shredded. I prefer Fairy tales, I think because my mother read them to me when I was very young. I loved the morals that were embedded in. I like the more subtle ones as well. I like how (even the darker versions have some of this) the 'good people' get rewards and the evil people are punished. I like how animals come together to help those who need it. I love how the people who are portrayed as our heroes for the most part, endure through kindness and patience and hard work. I think those are important values that don't seem very enforced in other stories. It struck a chord and when I started forming stories, I wanted to incorporate the same ideals. Currently I am working on a paranormal mystery thriller with some fun historical tidbits thrown in and even a little forbidden love. It's sort of like red riding hood with vampires, but unlike any red riding hood you ever saw. We all know the story of little red riding hood. The little girl who met a wolf on the way to granny's. What if this was no chance encounter? What if the wolves returned for little red, because she was the last of an ancient vampire line? With her 21st birthday fast approaching, Scarlet Ryder finds herself enveloped in mystery, conspiracy and an ancient war between vampires and werewolves. Currently (though there are some projects expected to be finished up shortly) my only published work is an anthology called Forgotten Places. The Forgotten Places Project is a charity anthology book for St. Judes Children Hospital comprised of short stories. Each story is based on an abandoned location setting chosen by its author. I'm very proud to be part of this anthology and very proud it's my first published work. I was drawn at once to this beautiful green train station. The picture looked so much like a portal to another world. Before I even had time to grab a pen, the story took form of a human girl stuck in the world of fairies. The story is about her desire to go home and what she is willing to sacrifice. It's a darker take on the fairy tale. Since we decided very early on the charity was for kids, I wanted to write a fairy tale for kids. ________________________________________________________________________________________ To check out and purchase a copy of the book that supports such a great cause, please visit the Amazon Page for Forgotten Places.
