Moon Poetry
I've always been drawn to the moon, and the image shows up a lot in my poetry. However, these poems are dedicated solely to the moon and all of her glory. Hope you enjoy!!
The Mabon Moon
I've awakened
And found a new piece of mind
That's been eluding me for weeks.
It came in the form of a pair of brown eyes,
Off-beat humor, so gorgeous and sweet.
It came on the eve of the Autumn Equinox,
As I invited the Crone to come forth,
To offer me guidance through the dark days,
To bless my life with her rebirth.
Within the shadows of the flickering flames,
From the gold candles upon the floor,
She danced to the tune of a Mabon Moon,
And in my ear, whispered a name.
And that name has come with such resonance,
Time and time again.
Day and night it tempts me,
To utter it once- aloud.
To give it life,
A breath,
A heart,
A soul and a mind of its own.
To not fear what could lie ahead,
Beyond my security, my home.
To allow for this fatalists wings,
To spread wide for her destiny,
And to hope that I can always find
Open arms waiting for me.
Witness, Moon
Diana’s moon,
Tinged in rouge,
Blushes deeply as I stare.
No blinking stars
Or smoky clouds
Could hide her feverish face.
I wait for you
On the balcony
Sniffing Don Juan’s citrus blooms.
The Great Horned Owl
Hoots mournfully
In the distant black pines- looming.
Close to dawn
You wake me from
My stupor on the stairs.
I’ve dreamt of you
On the balcony floor
And, yes, you’ve finally come.
We quickly find
That special flame
Which I’d kindled through the night.
Ah, fading moon,
I feel for you
To be witness to our plight.
And look,
Here comes the glorious sun,
Who wishes to watch, too,
As we cover up,
In the satin and silk,
Not allowing his rays to shine through.
Sacrificial Moon
I watch the waves
Crash the small docks.
Tonight I do not think of the prowling catfish,
Those fat mud cats of nocturnalism
Who might seek out chicken liver
If I had my rod and reel.
The mosquitoes don’t come near me
As if my blood were too hot
For their proboscis to withstand.
Yes, it boils hot,
My temperature rising in anticipation
Of the hunger that your touch brings.
A new moon shines down upon me,
Seeming like a silver satin orb.
Nothing could penetrate her luminescence tonight.
For she knows what tonight will bring.
She knows what commitment I will make.
She knows what I will sacrifice to keep you.
She is my gravity and my wings,
My protector, yet my proprietor.
I feel your hand slip into mine,
And your breath upon my neck.
I feel your body pressed close to me…
How sweet life feels tonight.
Lips on lips, and with that touch
Desire fills all empty space.
And the moon smiles down from her perch,
The blood of innocence on her face.
Goddess Moon
I draw down the moon,
Her healing powers.
I draw down her light
In this midnight hour.
I drink of her liquid,
Quenching my thirst.
I draw in her fullness,
Until I could burst.
I ask for protection,
For wisdom and love.
I ask for contentment,
That what I have is enough.
I ask for her patience,
And prophetic dreams.
To be aware of my cycles
And to have all I need.
Goddess Moon,
Devour the night-
You’re the essence of Mother,
The bringer of Life.
Chaste Moon
The full and Chaste Moon
Stares down with feverish dalliance,
Her raw energy igniting passion-
Feeding the frenzy of my rushing words
As I incant within this circle
Sacred and rhyming chants
For the Goddess’s ears to hear.
I ask for a bit of patience,
And a moment of harmony
To be one with she who gives me strength,
And guides me through my day,
And for focus, humor and love
As I continue on my way,
Hoping to always be aware
Of the blessings of everyday.
