My name is Samantha Buttrick. I live in southeastern Ohio in a small, rural area. I am a writer, tarot reader, and have great interest in the paranormal.
It’s hard to say what may strike me as an interesting topic to blog about since I have so many interests. I am sure the main things will be books, writing, the tarot, the paranormal, and perhaps a movie that has struck me in a way that makes me want to write.
I am currently working on some short stories as well as some flash fiction pieces and a mystery series for adults. My very special work-in-progress I'm excited about is a quirky dystopian/apocalyptic series with an awesome main character I can't wait to share with the world. I’ve been writing since I can remember, and I have probably tried my hand at everything at one time or another. I think that’s how we all learn what it is we are good at writing. Or maybe we just think we know what we’re good at writing… It’s hard to say.
I’ve been a tarot reader for twelve years. I used to do online readings, but now I mostly read for myself. There is a lot of knowledge and understanding that can be found in a deck of 78 cards. I owned ten decks at my last count, though I am always looking for that next one to add to my collection. Tarot decks are like animals and people. Each one carries its own attitude and energy. So as my collection grows, so does my little mystical family.
I also love drawing, painting, and computer graphics design. I love tattoos and design my own, saving money to get my next tattoo fix is never-ending. I also love ghost stories and the idea of the zombie apocalypse. J I spiritually follow an eclectic Pagan path, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
That’s me in a nutshell.
Some random facts about me:
§ Halloween is my favorite holiday, and it makes me feel like a big kid.
§ I want to build a gypsy vardo to use as my writing office when I have the means to do so.
§ I almost always handwrite all of my books, then use my Dragon Naturally Speaking software to transfer it to the computer. It beats the heck out of typing all of it!
§ Purple is my favorite color and bot of my tattoos are purple, as is the next one I have planned.
§ One of my favorite writers is Stephen King because of his ability to craft an excellent short story, though most people love his novels.
§ I was obsessed with Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles when I was a teenager, and began writing poetry about vampires at fourteen because of her books.
§ I’m a huge fan of Tim Burton and even do Tim Burton-esque artwork for fun.
§ Even though Halloween is my favorite holiday, I absolutely love doing Christmas crafts.
§ I’m a very good cook, and I love getting creative in the kitchen when I have time. I never follow a recipe but cook by smell instead.
§ The Harry Potter book series left me effected in such a way that I was depressed when it ended and couldn’t write anything of my own for months.
§ I find that humor is a necessity in whatever one writes, though my blog pieces have tended to be toward the serious side. Funny how that happens…
§ I enjoy the editing process, but love editing for other people much more than for my own work.
§ I’m a chronic list-maker. ;-)
